About Our Products
A tincture is a concentrated liquid extract that pulls the beneficial compounds out of mushrooms and makes them bioavailable for your body to absorb. Raw mushrooms have tough cell walls made of chitin, a fiber most humans cannot fully digest, which means many of the active compounds pass through your system without being absorbed.
Our dual extraction process breaks down those cell walls using both hot water and alcohol, capturing two distinct sets of compounds: the water-soluble polysaccharides and beta-glucans, and the alcohol-soluble triterpenes. The result is a potent, full-spectrum extract in every bottle.
Functional mushrooms contain two primary categories of beneficial compounds. Beta-glucans and polysaccharides are water-soluble. Triterpenes are alcohol-soluble. A single extraction method only captures one of these, which means you get a fraction of the mushroom's potential.
Dual extraction uses both a hot water decoction and an alcohol extraction, then combines them. This is how we produce a full-spectrum tincture that delivers the complete profile of compounds the mushroom has to offer. Many commercial products skip one step to cut costs. We do not.
We use fruiting bodies only. The fruiting body is the actual mushroom, the part that has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. It contains the highest concentration of active compounds.
Some supplement companies use mycelium grown on grain, which dilutes potency with starch from the growing medium and reduces the density of active compounds. We grow our own mushrooms in a controlled environment and harvest only the fruiting body. There is no grain filler in our products.
We currently offer single-mushroom tinctures and blends:
Lion's Mane — cognitive support, focus, and nerve health
Reishi — stress reduction, immune support, and sleep quality
Turkey Tail — immune system support and gut health
Cordyceps — energy, endurance, and athletic performance
Blends — curated combinations targeting specific wellness goals
Right here in Corpus Christi, Texas. Coastal Bend Mushrooms is a working farm, not a label slapped on imported bulk powder. We grow our mushrooms in a controlled indoor environment, harvest the fruiting bodies ourselves, and process everything in-house. When you buy from us, you know exactly where your product comes from.
How to Use
The most effective method is sublingual absorption. Place one full dropper (approximately 1 mL) under your tongue, hold for 20 to 30 seconds, then swallow. This allows the compounds to absorb directly into the bloodstream and bypass the digestive process, which is faster and more efficient.
If you prefer, you can also add your tincture to coffee, tea, water, a smoothie, or any food. The compounds remain active in hot and cold beverages. The sublingual method is simply faster. Either approach works well as part of a daily routine.
The standard starting dose is one full dropper (1 mL) once daily. If you are new to functional mushrooms, start with this amount and assess how you feel over the first two weeks before adjusting.
Many people increase to two dropperfuls per day once they are comfortable. Functional mushrooms work best with consistent, daily use over time rather than as a single-dose supplement. There is no established universal dose, and individual responses vary. When in doubt, start low and build up.
It depends on the mushroom. As a general rule:
Lion's Mane and Cordyceps are better suited for mornings or early afternoon. Lion's Mane supports focus and mental clarity, and Cordyceps is known for energy and endurance, so taking them earlier in the day aligns with their natural effects.
Reishi is best taken in the evening. It has a calming quality and is commonly used to support wind-down and sleep quality.
Turkey Tail can be taken at any time. Consistency matters more than timing for this one.
The most important factor is picking a time you can stick to. Daily consistency produces better long-term results than optimal timing you cannot maintain.
Functional mushrooms are not fast-acting stimulants. They work by supporting underlying systems over time, particularly the immune system, nervous system, and stress response. Most people begin to notice effects after two to four weeks of consistent daily use.
Some people notice changes sooner, especially with Lion's Mane for focus or Cordyceps for energy. Others take longer. The key variable is consistency. Sporadic use produces minimal results. Daily use over 30 to 90 days is where most people report meaningful changes.
Yes. Different mushrooms target different systems, and combining them is a common approach. For example, many people take Lion's Mane in the morning for focus and Reishi in the evening for recovery. There are no known negative interactions between the mushrooms we carry.
If you are unsure where to start, our blends are formulated with complementary mushrooms and are a straightforward way to experience multiple benefits in a single product.
Safety and Storage
Functional mushrooms are generally well-tolerated and considered safe for most healthy adults when used as directed. They have a long history of use in traditional medicine across Asia and Eastern Europe.
Side effects are uncommon but can include mild digestive sensitivity in some individuals, especially at higher doses. Because our products are in liquid extracted form, they tend to be gentler on the digestive system than raw powder capsules.
As with any supplement, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider before starting if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, immunocompromised, or taking prescription medications. Some mushrooms, particularly Reishi, can interact with blood thinners and immune-modulating drugs.
Yes. Alcohol is a necessary part of the extraction process. It is the only solvent capable of extracting triterpenes and other alcohol-soluble compounds from the mushroom. Without it, you get an incomplete extract.
The alcohol content in a single serving is minimal, roughly comparable to the amount found in a ripe banana or a small amount of kombucha. At the typical dropper dose, the quantity is not significant for most people. If you have a specific sensitivity or concern, we recommend speaking with your doctor.
Store your tincture in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat. A cabinet or pantry works well. Refrigeration is not required.
When stored properly, tinctures are very shelf-stable. The alcohol acts as a natural preservative. Our bottles include a best by date for reference, but a properly stored tincture will typically remain potent well beyond that window.
We do not provide dosing recommendations for children. If you are considering introducing functional mushrooms to a child's routine, please consult a pediatrician or naturopath first.
For pets, particularly dogs, functional mushrooms are generally considered safe and are commonly used. Because our tinctures contain alcohol, we recommend mixing the tincture into food or water rather than direct oral dosing, and reducing the amount proportional to body size. Always consult your veterinarian before adding any supplement to your pet's routine.

With large supplement brands, you rarely know where the mushrooms were grown, how they were processed, or whether the active compounds were actually preserved through production. You are buying a label, not a farm.
When you buy from Coastal Bend Mushrooms, you are buying from the person who grew and processed every batch. We grow fruiting-body-only mushrooms here in Texas, do our own dual extraction, and stand behind every bottle. That level of traceability and accountability simply does not exist at scale.
